I know it’s only a week in, but I already have a complaint. Sure, a lot of my miserably married friends told me not to go through with it, but I didn’t take heed and so I’m now faced with quite a difficulty and this difficulty happens on a daily basis. I just can’t seem to make my tefillin shel yad stay on with my tallis. I’m sure a lot of you daily daveners had this issue at one point or another, but after a week of talis and tefillin wearing I can’t seem to get it right. It’s not only that, in general I hate wearing a talis, it plain old sucks. Thank God the wife bought me a pimp talis bag that I don’t mind wearing around town, but it doesn’t change the pain in the ass of talis wearing.
I wonder if these talis problems stem from having a normal sized talis, I now wonder if life would be better with a light silk scarf style talis, they sell them where I work and seem to be so much easier to wear. Not only am I having trouble keeping my tefillin shel yad on, I also calculated that it probably takes me longer to fold my talis than to say shemona esrei, adding a lot of time onto my very abridged morning service. I wonder if anyone gives a heter exchange, like I can add some davening in exchange for not wearing a talis.
Of course, this could all be solved if I were to put on my tefillin first, last week I figured out I wasn’t even saying the right bracha on the darned thing. Apparently talesim and tzitzis are different brachos – how the heck was I supposed to know such thing. At least I don’t have to wear woolen large tzitzis now that I’m married…
