Want to know more about orthodoxy? Read Chaim Potok!

I started reading The Promise over shabbos and I must say it’s one of the best novels about orthodox Judaism I’ve ever read, it is the sequel to the more famous The Chosen and it really digs deep into issues affecting our community today. Although it’s a sequel, it’s a book worth reading without taking a look at The Chosen and I would say that it provides a more interesting look at orthodoxy, because it focuses on the conservative, modern orthodox and ultra orthodox way of living life, learning Torah and confronting secular society. I’m too lazy to write exactly what Wikipedia says, but if you do get into Potok, I would also highly recommend reading My Name is Asher Lev as well (it deals with chabad and it’s quite ahead of its time)

At some point in the near future I will have some sort of recommended reading list….
