For some reason I find that when it comes to drinking on purim, it is usually the modern orthodox and non-observant Jews that are anti the practice. This seems to be the case, in fact I have never really met any frummies that are anti-drinking on purim. Just like hallel on yom haatzmaut, it is one of those issues that seem to be a cultural boundary.
