..Or any other modern military uniform color (even green if you are a Navy/AF flyer)
A question has been posed in the other section, I thought I would bring it here.
Bsamim smoker asks if there has been any discrimination or hazing due to being Jewish in the military.
I will answer as someone who is in, but is not in any way representing, the USAF.
Most of the issues that I have had in relation to this are ignorant individuals, and (hardly) ever official or policy type things.
For the most part, leaders seem to want to be as accommodating as they can.
I wear my Kippah in uniform, so anyone who knows what that means knows I am Jewish, when I am indoors, at least.
As to ignorant individuals, there was the one who said she was offended that I agreed with some of the non Jews in my unit who told her that she could not add "ed" to "Jew" in a scrabble game. She literally yelled about it, "there's nothing wrong with that word, my friends use it, my mom uses it, are you saying they are all bigots?" etc. etc.
And yes, I did tell her that if they do talk like that, they are, in fact all bigots.
The girl who asked if I was a "messiah Jew, or the other kind" was also kind of... off.
Those of you with some military background can add your own stories as well, please.
Anything else military related can go here as well..
