this title may be offensive to some but i'm not trying to offend anybody i promise. Through personal observation, i've noticed that a lot of young jewish women tend to be teases or just expect too much from a guy. Girls these days have endless lists of what they want in a guy. I may not be the most perfect guy on the planet, but I consider myself good looking and date-able. What happened to a guy's personality? What happened to how much respect he has for other people? Who cares how "popular" he may be. After a few rejections throughout high school, I always blamed myself, but after the rejections started entering double digits, I thought somethings gotta give here. It may be my own fault who knows. Even my friends have similar problems and they happen to be great guys. A girl even cheated on my friend while they were dating. The point is that i lost my faith in the Jewish dating scene (rant over lol)...I would love to see some comments on this. and if you wanna even chat about it my aol screen name is syb315.

Ok, there is this guy who claims to be a Ba'al Teshuvah who follows Breslov. He appears all frum and claims to be shomer negiah. However, he started calling and texting me. I am not halachically Jewish but I have been learning to follow through the process of conversion. My Father is Jewish. We got together once or twice but I cant bring myself to continue this nonsensical thing. I have ignored him but he persists. It's not what I believe and who I am. My dilemma is that I like him. He went away to Israel to study and has been calling, texting, and emailing me. I want to get together with him but i dont' know what to expect or what he is Jewishly thinking. I don't know if its a Breslov thing or its just his own disturbance? Thoughts?

Light came out in Japan two weeks or more before in the US. I grabbed it up even though it cost almost $30 here with the "bonus" DVD since up to now Matisyahu has been one of two blatantly Jewish musicians I've enjoyed at all. I've had some time with it, my first reaction was "I wasted my money" since none of it is the reggae flavored rock I'd enjoyed before. I'm trying to give it a chance with more listens, but so far its not my thing even though its a very well made record. Anyone else here got an opinion?

Many students fall behind during the school year and find cumulative material very frustrating. Tutoring during the summer months can help these students start the new school year in a more positive frame of mind. Students may need only a few hours of extra help in one subject or extensive tutoring in many subjects – but tutoring costs are often prohibitive. Study Rite is a program that matches up students with volunteer tutors. The Study Rite Program runs through July, August, and September.

Some black-hat communities hold that a kalla should wear a sheitel on her wedding day so that her hair will be covered after the chuppa.

In chassidish communities where women wear turbans, is this practiced?

The reason I'm asking is because of a (very beautiful) YouTube video that I've watched several times before. In it, the Nikolsburg Rebbe performs a "mitzva tanz" with his daughter. After he kisses her hand (toward the middle of the video), she pulls back and you can see something that appears to be a turban on her head.

Is this a turban?

Vaad Ha Tznius Issues Laundry Guidelines

The Vaad Ha Tznius has just issued the following guidelines regarding laundry.

It has come to our attention that many families, including those who pride themselves on following all aspects of halacha, are in constant violation of not conforming to proper Tznius guidelines. Unbelievably, many, many families are washing men's and women's clothing together at the same time in the same washing machine. This is an unprecedented breach of Tznius.!!! How could anyone think that one is allowed to wash men's and women's undergarments at the same time in the same wash load? There is more than a saffek here of ‘material neg’eeah’ Even pillows slept on by more than one sex fall into the category of
גלוי כריות (gillui carriot!!! ) = illicit unions punishable by Mitat Bet Din= מטת בית דין.
The Rabbis say that it is our goal in this life to make a ‘dirah betachtonim’ but doesn’t mean that washing them is a free for all! Rather, Beit Shamates teaches us that the prohibition of g’di behallav emo, occurring 3 times in the Tora, comes to teach us that g’di = any behama dakka, such as KIVSA, a sheep, from which we derive KVISA, laundry, ergo: we are forbidden to mix our washing.
Rabbi Dolche said in the name of Rabbi Gabbana, “Better * to barbecue a pig on Yom Kippur than jumble your undies in the same load.” (in the Yerushalmi it says, BUTTER)

Therefore, for the salvation of Amm Yisroel, we are issuing the following guidelines regarding the doing of laundry.

1. Ideally each observant home should have two washing machines and two dryers - one washing machine and one dryer should be used exclusively for men's clothing and the other washing machine and dryer should be used exclusively for women's clothing. Special Haredi glatt washers, can be purchased for no more than 15% more than regular machines.

2. In the event that a family cannot afford to have two washing machines and two dryers, the following rules should be adhered to.

        a. Under no circumstances should men's clothes be washed in the same machine as women's clothing (‘ Yechhud ha-Bad’). They should, of course, also be dried separately.

        b. After doing a load of men's clothing, one should run the washing machine through a complete cycle without any clothes in it. Only then one may wash women's clothing in this machine. However, if has washed a load of women’s clothing, the machine must be allowed to complete two complete cycles without clothing.

	      c. After drying a load of men's clothing the dryer should be allowed to cool off completely. After this, one may use the dryer for drying women's clothes. The same applies after drying a load of women's clothing before using the dryer for men's clothing.

	    d. Before putting any clothing in the machine, a woman who is in "Needa" should run through a complete menstrual cycle without any clothes on herself. After which the husband should be allowed to cool and dry off completely.

	 e. If men’s and women’s clothing is mixed by accident, and if a shtriemle happens to come in contact with a woman’s culottes (a type of short pants), and if the shtreimle gets pregnant, the offspring are called shtreimlottes, and may not be washed with any clothing except other shtreimlottes. It is, however, permissible to wear such items on Purim because of their silly nature.

Leading Ultra Orthodox figures, have put forth the question, Is Laundry itself a form of Preetsus (immorality)? After all, in order to get into the machine, clothing must be --shudder-- removed from the body, leaving it, the body, for however short a time, in an immodest, forbidden state. However, The Rav Elyashirt paskens that it is permissible to remove dirty clothing, even undergarments, as long as the clean ones are put on prior to taking off the soiled ones. The Farshtunkene, on the other hand, took a harder line and never removed his clothes until his dying day, as it is written, “That no man can stand the odor --
“ אֵין אָדָם יָכול לַעֲמד מִפְּנֵי רֵיחָהּ ”

Note: These are the only laundry guidelines on which frum laundry can be hung. … er … These are the only guide laundry lines frum which you can depend on your laundry hanging on . . . These frum guides… Oy gevalt!

I know this is going to sound like a Yechi thing, but someone in shul pointed out that there are 5770 days between Gimmel Tammuz (The Rebbe's yartzeit in 1994) and the first day of Pessach.

I ran the calculation in Excel and it adds up.

03/30/10 - 06/12/94 = 5770 (format result cell to number instead of date).

..Or any other modern military uniform color (even green if you are a Navy/AF flyer)
A question has been posed in the other section, I thought I would bring it here.
Bsamim smoker asks if there has been any discrimination or hazing due to being Jewish in the military.
I will answer as someone who is in, but is not in any way representing, the USAF.
Most of the issues that I have had in relation to this are ignorant individuals, and (hardly) ever official or policy type things.
For the most part, leaders seem to want to be as accommodating as they can.
I wear my Kippah in uniform, so anyone who knows what that means knows I am Jewish, when I am indoors, at least.
As to ignorant individuals, there was the one who said she was offended that I agreed with some of the non Jews in my unit who told her that she could not add "ed" to "Jew" in a scrabble game. She literally yelled about it, "there's nothing wrong with that word, my friends use it, my mom uses it, are you saying they are all bigots?" etc. etc.
And yes, I did tell her that if they do talk like that, they are, in fact all bigots.
The girl who asked if I was a "messiah Jew, or the other kind" was also kind of... off.
Those of you with some military background can add your own stories as well, please.

Anything else military related can go here as well..

Would I be the only guy requesting in a dating profile that the (shomeret miztvot) girl he's dating at least shake hands? I'm not talking about any hanky panky going on.

You see, I'm a man who will generally shake hands when introducing myself to women. This mostly occurs during interviews. I will also hug *gasp* if requested. This usually happens with women who have known me since we were children or with middle-aged family friends. I'm pretty sure someone will say this counts as Derekh Chiba (affectionate manner), but I consider this a far cry from bumping and grinding in a club.

While I try to avoid labels, I think I'd fit in with the Modern Orthodox world. The Hashkafa seems more balanced. However, as a BT living in the Monsey area, almost everyone I know is Charedi. So, I'm more likely to be introduced to Charediyot women than Modern Orthodox ones.

What would you think of a couple (dating or married) in which one partner kept Shmirat Negi'a in the No-Derekh-Chiba fashion and the other was more strict? Would it look like the more lenient partner was controlling the partner that had a strict interpretation? I could imagine people thinking "Yochanan doesn't let his wife touch other men. He's got issues," if they were to see me shake a woman's hand and my wife to refuse to shake a man's. And I certainly wouldn't want to create Chilul HaShem for my non-observant family.

ok, so as far as i could figure out with my limited knowledge on the topic, men can't do it because they can't spill their seed, right?

so what's the problem for women?

yes, my logic may be way off, but that's why i'm asking the question.

The placed and ad looking for a reliable person. The agency refused to run the ad because it discriminated against unreliable people.

WTF?

PS. I'm not making this up, story was in this morning's Gazette.

I don't know how many readers here went to a secular university, but I saw my local Chabad shaliach near the dining area handing out free Kabbalah books in Hebrew with some other books on Chabad and Hasidic philosophy. Correct me if I'm wrong, disregarding the fact most people can't read hebrew, but isn't Kabbalah only supposed to be taught to those who are already thoroughly educated in Judaism? I know Madonna and some other celebrities are supposedly studying it, but I wouldn't expect an ultra-orthodox group like Chabad to be giving it to anybody.

Has anyone noticed it or is it outside the norm? I dunno, it seemed strange to me.

No31 on "Organ donation"

I like the idea of giving priority to organ donors re / Israel / new law giving priority to organ donors / but with critical cases all being first.

It's gives a halachic 'excuse' to donate organs, it could cost you your health or life if you don't.

It may be argued that critical cases are moved to the front regardless of whether they offer to donate, but the thing is, many marginal cases are only marginal because they have time to wait. The clock ticks and bingo, they become critical, and there's no guarantee that an organ will turn up in the needed time.

I've always felt the reason for not donating an organ did not fit with the core Torah values of preserving life and health.

I can't donate my organs because G-d, l'havdil, won't know how to make me new ones?

What about the people in the Holocaust who were burned up, they don't get bodies?

I'm glad that Torah Judaism is now being given a chance to B. correct a perspective against donating organs and A. saving more lives by encouraging more organ donations.

And finally, it's ridiculous to have a bias against organ donation just because they use organs in churches.

Respectfully submitted.

It's no secret that reform Jews despise and have no respect for traditional / orthodox Judaism. Now they have turned anti semitic as well.

At the latest URJ convention a few weeks ago, they came up with the "bright" resolution that Israel needs to give more funding to Arab citizens and also force Hareidi Jews "back to work" in order to be a "true democracy".

WTF????

Notable speakers at the convention were our antisemitic "friends" king Abdullah and Tony Blair.

Personally, I think they should go back to solving the bar mitzva bj's issue.

As a father of 6, I've had various experiences with dealing with bullying in the yeshiva system, my most recent being this morning.

I'll start with the background that led up to these events.

My eldest son was bullied throughout his first 6 years in school, as he was extremely shy and the youngest in his class of about 30 kids. The only time we ever heard anything was from a classmate's mother. He never wanted to fight back or tell anyone. On numerous occasions, we had meeting with the principal, who assured us that immediate action was being taken, though nothing was ever really done. I once scared off a bully by physically threatening him, it worked very well for that kid, but my wife was against me doing so with all the kids, saying it was embarssing to her. The bullying eventually stopped when another parent of a bullied kid called in the cops, and they forced the kids, parents and pricincipal into the police station for a "no tolerance" meeting.

My younger kids are in a new yeshiva this year. Last night, one of them told me about an older kid beating on them in the bus and schoolyard. This kid's 11, my son is 7. As your typical victim, my little one never brought it up or told anyone. I was furious.

I got on the bus this morning, found out who the kids was. After lifting his face to look me straight in the eye and putting on a mean look, I yelled that if ever he or his friends touched one of my kids again, I would come back onto the bus, break both his arms, so that he would need to call his mom every time he needed his ass wiped once he got out of the hospital.

I'm quite sure I scared the crap out of him. I think I got the job done in a quick, painless manner, this time my wife actually laughed when I told her what I said.

I'm the last person any of you would probably imagine as enjoying the upcoming Xmas. In fact, I never imagined myself doing so either.

Yes, when I used to work for a big company many years ago, we'd be paid for not working that day, but I can't really say I was "enjoying " it.

This year, I got a tip on some toys that showed up in Canada. Thank God, I managed to move about a container's worth, it really made my month. The vast majority were sold to Xmas shoppers over the last 3-4 weeks or so.

This has made it my happiest "holiday season" in a long time, am I wrong for "enjoying" it?
