And you thought chabadnicks were the only one’s to worship their rebbe

I have a feeling that most of the hatred directed at chabad for their “rebbe worship” is because most other chassidic groups aren’t accessible to just any old shmo off the street. Not only are chabadnicks the “missionaries” of the Jewish world, they speak English and they allow access that most other chassidic sects will never allow. This video was just sent to me and it shows a practice called Sherayim which seems kind of Jesus wafer-esque to me. The video kind of reminds me of a bunch of people at a concert waiting for freebees or at a baseball game trying to catch a home run ball. The announcement at the beginning is telling people not to jump on the tables.

Just goes to show Yechi isn’t just a chabad meshugas,

It seems to be just a coincidence that i just wrote about this subject on my blog. (Not the blog that links to this site but the other one.http://leibnizgodelaristotle.blogspot.com/) My critique was only on this aspect of Chabad. but I did not mean that this is the only problem with Chabad. The major difference between Chabad and other Hasidiot is that the other Hasidiot do not say or believe secretly that their Rebbi is G-d. This is a significant difference. To get into the question of how proper other Hasidiot are is not my place. The idea of an intermediate advocate is considered kosher in Hasidut even though it is considered not kosher by the Rambam. The idea of connecting with the spirit of a tzadik is considered kosher in chasidut even though it is considered not kosher by Rebbi Chayim from Volloshin.
I cant decide these issues. But what makes Chabad treif (not Kosher) even from the viewpoint of Hasidut is that they believe their Rebbi is the reincarnation of G-d on earth.
There are further problems with the fact that they believe in pantheism and represent this as traditional Torah while the actual belief of the Torah is Monotheism (according to the Rambam and Saadia Geon and the Ari and all Kabalists.)

Are you into fantasy fiction? Chabad philosophy, Lurianic Kabbalah and the Zohar ,upon which Chabad philosophy is based and most Kabbalists, state that each and everyone one of us has a “nitzuz Elokim”,a spark of G-d, within ourselves. That is the sum total of the so called “pantheisim” that you attribute to Chabad.

I’m a secular Israeli Jew. I’m very proud of being jewish but this really saddens me.

We gave them bnei brak and mea shearim and look what they have done with the place. They have a faulty sheep herd mentality. I feel somewhat obligated as a Jew to emancipate them from mental slavery.
    Perhaps the Ataturk way.

  • http://jewishmythbusting.blogspot.com/ Ruthie

    @Daniel:

Now now, no need to do violence.
They can have their homogeneously hareidi towns, so long as they don’t try to make the rest of the country like that. People should be able to think whatever they like IN THEIR OWN PERSONAL LIVES without fear of reprisal. (Sorry for the string of caps; this form needs formatting…)
Granted, they do regularly abuse the political system to try to impose their standards on the entire Israeli public, but all that is needed to keep that from getting out of hand is to stop considering them essential for the formation of a government. (In my opinion, that was Ben-Gurion’s mistake…)

Heshy: Did you ever read “The Chosen”? The author describes this same phenomenon in fascinatingly bizarre detail…

But what about the children that get indoctrinated into this craziness?

I am always amazed at how some people seem to know what is in every Chabadniks heart and mind, have these people become prophets where Chabad is concerned? This Chabadnik does not and never believed the Rebbe was nor is G-d’s reincarnation on earth nor was she ever taught as such by her parents and teachers in Chabad schools around the globe. I have a very large circle of family and friends, I have been in touch with the foremost Chabad mashpiim of the past forty years, I have never, ever heard anything to indicate we follow such a belief. Enough already.

David Berger documents at length the growing “Elohistim” movement in chabad, wherein mainstream Chabad publications openly declare the Rebbe to be one with God, children are taught to daven to pictures of the Rebbe. etc.etc.
Pretty disturbing if you ask me. They go much further than any other Chassidus.

    • Chaim

Such ludicrous. Never do any chabad children daven to pictures of Rebbe. Who makes this stuff up?

    • Chana

Wrong! The Elokist movement is not growing at all. Even so called hard core meshichists stay away from them. And no, children are not taught to daven to the Rebbe’s picture, wrong again. A few misguided individuals do not an entire kehillah make. Please back up your assertions with proof. I attended four different Chabad schools in different continenents, never was any of the above taught nor endorsed, the same goes for my children’s school.

    • http://www.frumsatire.net Heshy Fried

I have NEVER in my life met anyone who belives the Rebbe zt”l is God.

    • Critic

David Berger had Issues with Chabad way before the passing of the late Lubavitcher rebbi ZY”A. I attended some of his courses at Brooklyn college many years ago when he was quite vocal in his opposition to Chabad and Chassidus in general.
“David Berger documents at length the growing “Elohistim” movement in chabad”
I don’t know what your definition of “documentation”is but he “documents” nothing except his own bias to prove his assertion about the ” the growing “Elohistim” movement in chabad”. Yes there are a a minuscule and declining number of lunatics who subscribe to this aberration that are reviled by even the most loony of the Meshicistin.

Haredi Israel will take over in our lifetime BH
In a short seven years, all of Jerusalem will be Haredi. In 19 years most of Israel will be Haredi. We will not allow women into the army and all serious Torah students will be exempt from the army as well. We will hire goyim to be the infantry and border guards. We will enforce strict laws in our society. Any arab caught throwing a rock will receive a ten year prison scentence with hard labor for attempted murder. This will increase the inner city security for millions of tourists and benefit the Chareidi society. We are not weak cowards like the secular Israeli government that caters to feminism and fagottism. There will be a death penalty for murder and anyone caught being a homosexual will be expelled from our holy country,Eretz yisroel. All anti Torah establishments will be shut down by the new chareidi police unit.

    • JohnL

Hope you are equally hard on all the Haredi Goneff’s and child molesters!

  • Four Knuckle Shuckle

I think you are all missing the point. What should be analyzed in detail about this video is the Rebbe’s throwing style! I knew it looked familiar. I am pretty sure that the Rebbe played minor league ball in the South in the early 40’s under the name Stan Klause. He was a brilliant catcher with a strong arm and cockeyed throwing motion. They say he threw out every runner attempting to steal second on him in the 41 season. He was heading to the majors for sure. Of course, as WWII progressed, the environment in the States, and particularly in the South, became openly hostile to anyone with a Germanic sounding surname. They say Stan Klause gave up baseball and moved north. No one ever really found out what became of him. I think we just found out.
Your analogy to a baseball game is exactly on point. I believe that the Shirayim custom of the Sanz Klauseburg chassidim is an opportunity for the Rebbe to relive some of his baseball glory.

  • Neal

Chasidus believes that Devakut is to be achieved through the Rebbe. Thus, all chassidim worship their Rebbe.

    • Critic

Emunas Tzadikim did not start with Chassidim. The concept of being dovuk to a Tzadik goes all the way back to Moshec Rabeinu as the posuk says “Vayaminu (BY) B’Hashem uveMoshe avdo”.Are you saying that all of the Jewish people worshiped Moshe?
A Rebbi is not a intermediary C”V between us and G-D which can be explained with the following analogy.
Imagine yourself stuck in some hole in the ground without a ladder to climb out.Someone hands you a ladder thereby giving you the ability to now climb out but you’ve got to do the climbing on your own.Or perhaps your find yourself in a room that is without any semblance of light.Someone hands you a candle and says here find your way out.Again it’s up to you to use that candle to find your way out.
A Tzadik/Rebbe is comparable to the one that hands you the ladder or candle but the “work” of connecting to G-D is up to you.

  • Yeah

Hungarian lunatics. Sadly, this is the state of the religious Jewish world post-Holocaust. The whole European world marveled at the talmedi chachamim that Poland produced before 1939. Sadly, 90% of Polish Jews were murdered. So all that’s left is the drek, which is Hungarian lunatics and Russian (Chabad), am oratzim. This video is vomit inducing.

    • Critic

“So all that’s left is the drek, which is Hungarian lunatics and Russian (Chabad), am oratzim”
And this is based on what your personal opinion? Based on your rational this would apply to the the remnant of the Litvish/Yeshivish community which was also decimated by the Shoah. Before making such sweeping generalizations and condemnations please back this up with some verifiable proof and instead of resorting to your own unmitigated “Lunacy and amhoratzus” with a good measure of sinas chinom thrown in.And this so soon after Yom Kippur.FEH!!!

  • Samael

Hey, ejmmm! My favorite blog. I even bought the book. Very much recommended.

And yeah, I visited a rebbe in Williamsburg recently. He seemed decent, although his disciples were a little nuts.

  • Crowin’ Cock

You sure this video isn’t some kind of Purim spoof making fun of Lubavitch? Both of the tunes are used by Chabad, the “ad bli dye” was sung at most farbrengens when the Rebbe was alive.

That guy thworing the cake at his folowers is over the top, seems too staged to be real.

  • Adam Zur

I want to say here my sources for saying that Chabad is a Satanic religion. My sources for information about Chabad comes from several sources. First of all the book, the Tanya and the Lekutai Torah which I studied in for several years. Also the Torah or also the letters of the Baal Hatanya plus books of kabalah which were written by the Baal Hatanaya and published according to the year there were said.
(besides this I learned real Kabalah (Zohar, the Remak, and the Ari) with Leibel Berenbaum the son of the rosh yeshiva of the Mirrer yeshiva.)
Plus I read several books of the son of the Alter Rebbi (Baal Hatnya) and also the Shaar Hayichud and his drashot on the parsha from the disciple of the Baal Hatanya with which there was the debate who should lead Chabad after the passing away of the Alter Rebbi;-
plus books by the Tzemach Tzedek and Reb Shmuel his son and his son Reb Joseph Shnerson and the Sichot every week for several years. Plus I had extensive experience with them in New York and in Los Angeles and in Safed and in Jerusalem and in Netivot.
From all this my conclusion is that Chabad is demonic and it doctrines are entirely;y from Shabatai Zvi in and they defraud people about their beliefs. Besides this their simple human wickedness astonished me. The incredible amount of evil they do and cover up with effective publicity campaigns is astounding.

If a Chabad Chasid hears something that conflicts with what she think she knows, and you don’t bother to check it out, she shouldn’t feel stupid. She is stupid.
If you want to be Chabad but won’t spend the time, effort and money to check out the real nature of this satanic movement, you’re not just stupid. You’re lazy, too.
If you think I’m disrespecting you, you’re right. I have no respect for men or women who are uninformed, get angry when someone contradicts them, but are too lazy to get informed, and too cowardly to face failure, criticism, and the possibility they might have to change their minds.

    • Critic

      Adam Zur
Since we live in a free country you have every right to believe what you want and express that belief on the internet or any other public forum.I to am not a Lubavitcher but have studied Chabad Chassidus extensively. You say that “I have no respect for men or women who are uninformed, get angry when someone contradicts them” and yet your’e doing the exact same thing by lashing out at those that disagree with your premise.Heck! You disagree with their basic philosophy, thats youre perogitive. As the saying goes “tovoh ulecho bracha”.Disagreement has been part and parcel of the Jewish tradition since time immemorial.Look at the Rayvid and the Rambam,Rav Yakov Emden and Rav Yonoson Eybshutz. The major bone of contention between the Bal Hatanya and Rav Chaim Velozhener in his magnum opus Nefesh Hachayim about the concept of tzimtzumim to name but a few.Healthy discourse has enriched the vast sea of Torah knowledge throughout ages.On the other hand wild accusations thrown in the heat of anger that have no basis in truth are beyond the pale.Your statement that “From all this my conclusion is that Chabad is demonic and it doctrines are entirely;y from Shabatai Zvi in and they defraud people about their beliefs. Besides this their simple human wickedness astonished me.”
Is way over the top .” Demonic”??? Lubavitch, just like any other sector of Judaism, has it’s faults but the accusation of being “demonic” is a new “revelation” to say the least.”Doctrines are entirely;y from from iShabatai Zvi”.Shabatai Zvi ,aside from proclaiming himself to be the Messiah, negated the need to fulfill mitzvos.Chabad on the other hand has been accused by some on this blog and others of promulgating Chumros which arguably in essence, are meant to strengthen the fulfillment of mitzvohs .
“Besides this their simple human wickedness astonished me.” is way out of the ball park”. That accusation is truly not worthy of a reply and sounds like a quote taken straight from the Protocols of The Elders of Zion.
This blog site is meant to be satirical and not a place to wax philosophical or pour out invective on something or someone we disagree with,(no insult meant Heshy ) therefore I will stop here even though much more can be said ,Somehow I have the feeling that you had/have some personal ax to grind that has resulted in this type of undeserved attack on Chabad.Enough said.

An atheist believes in one fewer god than most Jews do
And two fewer gods than the yechists do

  • Crowin’ Cock

Turns out this video is probably real, a friend that grew up in the Chassidish velt says they all do it.

    Isn’t throwing food assur?

  • Chaya Mushka

    Chabad, without a doubt, is the best thing that has ever happened to me. :}

  • Kirly

This actually isn’t sherayim, as I understand it. This is a specific minhag of Sanzer rebbes–apple-tossing at the very end of Sukkos. If you catch an apple, it’s a segula. Lucky apples. That explains the extreme craziness attending the Rebbe’s tosses. I love the guy who jumps and loses both his yarmulka and shtreimel.
