Jewish reality TV series: Orthodox girls go clubbing and admit it’s wrong

In over Our Heads is a new site that is going to attempt its hand at Jewish reality TV. They have 2 videos so far. One is about a woman’s negative perceptions of mikvah and another about some orthodox women going clubbing. They go to the club though they admit it’s wrong and “breaks a few rules”. Totally interesting and worth giving a look. I love that they are not anonymous.

Check out the second video to do with the clubbing.

I didn’t notice anything orthodox about these women. Uncovered hair, untzniyut clothing, wearing pants, it’s really not necessary to dress that way to go out and have fun. My wife and I have been to bars and even mosh pits, she didn’t feel that she had to break the tzniyut rules in order to have a good time.

This clip looks like a feeble attempt at creating something controversial out of nothing in order to generate viewership to their site. In the REAL orthodox world, the behaviour of these women is grounds for divorce, I’m sure even the Soloveitchik and Breuer camps would agree.

When I was in Israel for the year (at one of the normal bt seminaries) we made an “untznius dance party” for one of my friends as her going away party. It was all women. We came to the apartment dressed tzniusly, changed into our old/untznius clothes, turned up the music — someone even made a sign that said the “FrummerGround” instead of the “Underground” (a dance club in Jersualem at the time).

Anyway – we got to dance, have fun, let loose and it was all within the boundaries of halacha. People have to be a bit more creative. There are ways to have outlets and still remain frum.

I bet the girl or girls that came up with the “untznius” party were lesbians. There is no need for women to dress sexy unless they are trying to get male attention. This being an all-girls event, ipso facto, lezbos.

        lol, really?

Is it not forbidden by Halacha to dress untznius even in private?

Wow. Even the strictest Wahabite Muslim women dress “untznius” in private, among other women, under the abaya or with their husbands. Never thought I’d see the day when the rug-thumper women had more leeway and were less obsessed with being ugly than the Jews.

What I don’t understand is how Mindy can afford to pull these all-nighters…is Ami working and taking care of the children? It seems unfair to make him shoulder the burden.

How’d they get Lipa at their wedding?

  • Bubba Metzia May 28, 2010, 6:53 PM

I don’t understand. Why does she think she needs to dress untznius at the discotheque? What’s wrong with wearing a less revealing outfit there?

She’s a bored, horny woman. Like so many other religious Jewish women that get married in their early 20’s, she’s bored with her husband, bored with the sex, bored with her life. She probably fantasizes about strapping young Italian or Black men, and hopes to see some in the club she goes too. What it really boils down to is that most women are insane. They reach the peak of their physical attractiveness between the ages of 17 and 29. This is very difficult to deal with, and the more beautiful they are/were, the more loco they become. They do not have the desire to have a penis inside them until they’ve had lots of sex and had some whimper of an orgasm, which for most of these “Stern girls”, did not happen until their late 20’s, after being married for a few years. They see women their age going to work and have a seemingly care-free life; no kids to take care of, no pasty faced husband to have meaningless banter with, and the potential to have a different boyfriend (i.e. LOVER), every few months or so. Or every few weeks. Or whatever.

” A married Mom of 2 goes clubbling”

I heard of bais ya’akov rebels going to discotheques and bars but a married woman who claims to be Orthodox? I know that people go through a phase against authority but this woman needs to grow up. What is she decided that she wanted to become a stripper or take up pole dancing as a mean of having an outlet? Is she within her rights? After all she only wanted to have fun and enjoy herself. It would never come across her mind that letting loose would do any harm. And who are we the intolerant self righteous bigots to deny her pleasures? I’ve heard people justifying adultery, promiscuity and any illicit activities they involve themselves in and and still consider themselves piously Orthodox. Its all ludicrous and contradicting. Perhaps a beautiful woman should express her talents by becoming a playboy model as well. This woman is not just being a slut. She is immature and needs to get a life or perhaps a job.

Are these kids retarded? Is this show supposed to focus on mentally challenged kids who call themselves Orthodox?

“Didn’t Einstein say that like all energy is the same?”
“Sexuality and spirituality are the same thing, right?”
“Right! We can’t have a tzniut club because we live in a society!”

Seriously? Couldn’t they find anyone who could articulate a cogent thought? Although I guess that wouldn’t be so entertaining. Take a look at “The Shore”. I suppose that watching smart people on TV isn’t as fun as watching morons.

These folks aren’t even MO. Just because there are streimels at a wedding doesn’t make them Orthodox. It’s a bit disingenuous to call them what they are clearly not.

Yitsi is so right! Does everyone think it’s just an unfortunate happenstance that sexual energy is called energy? It is not.
All electrical connectors (for transferring energy of course) have male and female matching parts. Coincidence? You can have thousands of volts across both sides of a disconnected pair of wires. There is no magnetic field around it until you plug them together (most probably with a pair of male/female matching connectors). Then and only then, current flows and there is a magnetic field surrounding the wire, affecting everything in the vicinity. Great vibes around those two!

I think it’s interesting that Phil accuses Mindy of not being frum, then says that he and his wife have moshed in clubs but “didnt feel that [they] had to break the tzniyut rules in order to have a good time.” Can an orthodox person really take part in a co-ed mosh pit where anyone can just “cop a feel” in the name of good fun? Last I checked, mosh pits are all about smashing your body into random people.

Running around and looking for something in tight pants is completely natural. The life cycle wills one to produce. Sometimes we all get thoughts when we are alone in a private place in our house. Thoughts are natural and it is wonderful to be able to have such wonderful feelings as orgasms. I sit outside my house in the middle of the yard when the weather is nice. I live in a nice community. I watched a man coming down the street in tight pants and a bright colored shirt. He was attractive and I needed someone to help me reach a few spots while cleaning my windows. I said “excuse me.” He was friendly and stopped what he was doing to help. It was a Saturday and I wasn’t going to touch anything electrical. He helped me with my air conditioner and I made him a sandwich. If you are hot in the summer time you would stop just about anyone to get the air conditioner on. But, he was an attractive man and thoughts ran though my head while he took my sandwich to his lips. From time to time I see him. I make him a sandwich and every once in a while my feet may end up touching his legs under the table. But, that’s it. We all have our own personal wills and desires. When big blue eyes and soft red lips are in a big house alone a room thoughts race into the mind. It’s ok to think about things. If you have a moment that includes your foot rubbing against this mans leg and don’t think about more I would be surprised. It would be fun to see the reality show. In reality more interesting thing happens.

Common there are about a thousand different activities you can do other then going to a club to lose your head from time to time. It would be one thing if you were single but lets face it there is nothing innocent about you going clubbing. Girls get hit on at clubs. Thats why they go and guys go to hit on them. Im not saying its your fault your young and have urges but trying to justify it in your orthodox situation just sounds so ridiculous. At the very least you should not have flaunted this just out of respect for your husband.
