Srugim: Imagine a Jewish Sex and the City

by Heshy Fried on February 5, 2010 · 8 comments

Srugim was a really popular show in Israel that was about the modern orthodox singles scene of Jerusalem, and now you can watch it on the Jewish Channel – it looks super interesting and very funny, albeit a bit complicated. Finally someone is starting to realize that hava nagila and manishevetz just won’t cut it anymore.

It looks interesting, but I don’t think I could ever follow that show. Way too many characters with “crisscrossing” relationships. Although, it might be easier to follow over fifteen (15) episodes.

Srugim is now in its second season here in Israel. I love it. Spoiler: Two of the characters get married. If I can follow the characters, anyone can…and that’s with only Hebrew subtitles! (Israeli Hebrew shows often subtitle the exact script in Hebrew, which is really helpful.) Does the Jewish Channel have it with English subtitles?

Yes, TJC has Srugim with English subtitles. If you’re not 100% fluent in modern Hebrew, you’ll want to watch it on TJC.

Is Hershy Fried a consultant for this show? His in-depth knowledge of modern Orthodox stereotypes could be an asset for this show.
