That’s pretty much the reason they’ve deleted it already.

I think sheitel hooker is more appropriate a term. I think it’s irony and hypocritical the way Jewish women dress sooooo provocatively. Wearing a skirt is more important than dressing modestly. No one dares to say anything to the BTs and FFBs who run around dressed in short tight skirts with ginormous slits up the back and too much make up. People won’t say anything because you know, she needs to dress that way to find a shidduch.

If they said you’d get a shidduch if you jumped off a bridge….

Michal, you’ve got a warped view of “provocative”. Maybe the most seductive, provocative woman ever to grace the screen was Mae West. She could do more with a look and a gesture than the all the attendees at this year’s AVN expo could do with a hotel full of naked bodies. And she wore clothes that would just about pass muster with the Taliban. Contrariwise, there is no more modest place in the world than a naturist event. When they say “Nude is not lewd” they are telling the simple truth. That’s why an African king whose name escapes me forbade wearing clothes – it led to unnatural promiscuity.

The problem is in the intention of the wearer and the eye of the beholder. If the beholder has a filthy mind – which according to the best research is much more common among authoritarian religious cults like the Talibanis or Charedim than the general population – nothing can ever be modest enough. Once you go down the full-chumra, total-obedience road you just can’t stop. Anything except the total abnegation of all femininity and brutal separation of men and women is sin and depravity.

That’s the route today’s Orthodoxy is heading down. Shaved heads. Acid thrown on girls who wear the wrong color clothes. Stoning of girls – never boys – who step out of line. Eight year olds forbidden to play with each other. A parasitic class of middlemen brokering all marriages and exercising iron control over reproduction. It’s not “tznius”. It’s not “Torah”. Those are becoming little more than verbal bludgeons to enforce stupidity and obedience. It’s a depraved neurotic reaction to the faintest whiff of freedom and adult responsibility.

Holy moly, A. Nuran! I really hope you’re wrong. But I fear you’re right.

Thanks for another glimpse into that exotic world.

It made it! It’s already being considered for deletion. Ah, to be a havdala candle. Burn so brightly, have everyone look at you, only to be snuffed out in grape juice that is then stuffed in pockets and placed behind the ears of the proletariat.

We need more reliable sources to support an article on a slang term — The Knish is not enough. Let’s get real articles on it — so we can keep it.

Heshy Fried January 15, 2010 at 12:32 PM

There are no real articles – I created the term sheitle hooker and Ask Shifra created the term Hotr Chani – the Knish is just a blog.

Hesh,

You need to start getting trademarks for your terms.

‘A pejorative term”, they say? Wasn’t aware that the connotation was necessarily pejorative; I guess it depends on who’s saying it. I figured it’s not like ‘yenta’, ‘JAP’, or ‘sheigetz/shigtza’, all of which are insulting no matter who says it.

ohhhh this is so offensive –

call attention to their bodies:(

I thought the term was more benign…

I’ve also heard “tznius slut”, for someone who technically keeps the laws of tzniut but nevertheless manages to very intentionally dress provocatively.

Michaltastik January 16, 2010 at 8:41 PM

Hahaha, that’s so acurate. That’s what the men want, though. No one speaks out against it… Unless-chas V’Shalom the offending woman is gyoress.

oy vey January 16, 2010 at 10:34 PM

What’s the point of speaking out against it and embarrassing the girl? It’s the job of the parents, rebbetzins, friends, etc. to let a girl no that she doesn’t need to be a “tznius slut” to get attention (or a date), but that should (and does) go on in a private forum.

Reply

Michael Makovi January 17, 2010 at 3:05 AM

It depends on her intention. The “tznius slut” is a woman who is intentionally dressing provocatively. Not that she is merely wearing what she finds pretty or comfortable. No, she’s trying to send a very definite message to onlookers.

Reply

Michael Makovi January 17, 2010 at 3:07 AM

Not that you necessarily criticize her when you see her, even if you know her intention. Use your functional moral compass, and if you don’t have one, you’re not frum, no matter how many humras you keep.

Reply

oy vey January 17, 2010 at 11:31 AM

*let a girl know*, not let a girl no.

Reply

oy vey January 17, 2010 at 11:39 AM

True, her intentions are what should be monitored.
Although, now you have to be careful. For example, I have tried to look hot, but I still look like an innocent nun(the intentions are all there, but I just can’t pull off the look/I’m not that attractive?..idk). And then there are the girls that are just attractive to men, no matter what they wear. The second these girls wear a slightly shorter skirt, no matter their intentions, they are called out as TZNUIS SLUTTT!

Of course, there is a third type of girl who tells people that she is intentionally trying to turn guys on. This type of girl made me realize that I’m stupid for trying to look hot because I could accidentally turn into her.

I think Hot Hindy would make a better alliteration. You can use Foxy Faigy or Exotic Esther. Sensual Shani would work too and so would Smokin’ Simi.

Reply

MadMaxInJerusalem January 17, 2010 at 5:40 PM

Hot Hindy wouldn’t work – at least not here in Israel; everyone would think you’re talking about some girl from Bollywood.

It deeply bothers me that you write “Chani” in the blog title and “Chanie” in the Wikipedia entry mention. Grrr.

I love the double standard many people have with regards to this issue. If a woman is following the letter of the law with regards to tznius, yet still looks nice, everyone yells OMG she is a hot chanie. Yet if she takes upon herself extra precautions everyone calls her a frummie and asks why frummies have to take upon themselves extra chumrahs.

If someone has a Wikipedia account, you should point out the wikipedia has an entry for MILF and this term is a Jewish corollary.

China and Russia put the blame on some screwed up experiments of US for the earthquake that happened in Haiti.
Chinese and Russian Military scientists, these reports say, are concurring with Canadian researcher, and former Asia-Pacific Bureau Chief of Forbes Magazine, Benjamin Fulford, who in a very disturbing video released from his Japanese offices to the American public, details how the United States attacked China by the firing of a 90 Million Volt Shockwave from the Americans High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) facilities in Alaska
If we can recollect a previous news when US blamed Russia for the earthquake in Georgio. What do you guys think? Is it really possible to create an earthquake by humans?
I came across this article about Haiti Earthquake in some blog it seems very interesting, but conspiracy theories have always been there.
