Mohel gets lambasted on You Tube

by Heshy Fried on February 4, 2009 · 43 comments

I posted a simple video of the local Mohel telling a funny story and the anti-bris milah people chimed in. Its kind of expected that with every video I post to my you tube page, there will be several comments telling you to go F yourself you F-in Jew and the sort – but these comments were interesting. They called Bris Milah “sexual surgery without consent” – what about vaccinations and other things which children cannot agree to?

It’s kind of creepy in a way, only because it’s not in a hospital/doctors office or a sterile environment, performed by a health professional. People have to realize though, scientific research has proven that a circumcision is in fact a good thing. It keeps the wing wang healthy, and helps prevents infections and STDs (not to say you shouldn’t wear a condom when having your fun).

When are we going to get to see a sketch with the town rabbi?

I think their responses suggest a connection between anti-semetism and pedophilia.

vaccinations are nothing like circumsicion. In one you are prevented from having a disease, and in the other a piece of your genitalia is cut off..and supposedly it also reduces sexual pleasure too.

And the health benefits are minimal. The only proven one is that circumcised men have a slightly lower probability of contracting or passing on HIV, but the prevalence of HIV in the US is so low anyways that it shouldn’t make much of a difference (and for frum men who supposedly are only having sex with one person who was also a virgin, that should technically never be a problem).

Not that I’m against it per se, but to say it has “health benefits” is a really stupid argument in this context.

Kind of like to mom teling him nto to take too much of the top and the mohel replying “it won’t be long now”. hahaha…

Youtube people are always blasting each other, I get blasted for filleting fish by the “catch and release” people who in turn get blasted by the peta people. Of course many of these bring anti semitism into the comment too, as I’m visibly frum in many of my videos.

Anti Jewish hecklers are part of life, just kearn to live with it. My videos all require comment approval, if any use fould language or insults, I block the user and delete them.

Eden,

Frum Jews don’t circumsized kids at 8 days for health reasons, e do so because of a comandment in the Torah. Any added health benefits are incidental. I did once read about an almost 0% penile cancer rate in circumsized men.

Mohels are much quicker and better at it than any surgeon, hands down, given the amount of practice they get before being allowed to tough any kid. As for the unfortunate herpes incident, it was one mohel out of thousands that made the headlines. Modern mohels are sensitive to these issues, many of them will actually ask parents about their “lifestyle” for fear of contracting diseases from the baby too.

1) Compared to the way it’s done in hospitals and doctors’ offices, Jewish circumcision is quicker and far more humane to the baby. The first time I saw a hospital circumcision, I wondered why the parents ever agreed to it.

2) OTD, I hear that Judaism is in favour of breathing. Better see how long you can hold your breath.

WARNING: the american economy sucks. Banks have lent the money you deposited to people who have no means of paying back the money. In hopes that if they default on the loan they could take thier property(which is worth way less than the loan is worth so if they tried to sell it they wouldn’t get all the money back.

they have been neglegent with your money, it is tantamout to stealing. they have been giving money to anyone who ownes property without considering if they have the means to pay the money back(i.e. an income the affords to pay back the loan). Take all your money out before its too late. buy a safe and keep it at home.

“but anonymous the FDIC insures all my deposites up to $100,000.” would you trust a government that is billions and billions of dollars in debt themselves. and just gave away billions of dollars in bailout money to banks. Guess what with all these fanancial institutions going bust FDIC will revoke its insurance soon

Remember insurance is only for people that don’t usually us it. As the goverment sees that banks cann’t be trusted with the money people give them they will drop the insurance. Kind of like that teenage driver that is negligent with driving a car the insurnce drops him, because there paying out more than he’s paying in

Anti circ people are so much fun, its SO EASY to yank their chains. Unfortunately they tend to be a humorless lot.

Covenant of Abraham or no, having seen uncut Japanese men at public baths and hot springs, if I had a son he’d get the snippy snip for sure. I’d be ashamed to raise a boy with a turtle snake.

as mixing meat and milk would be to others.

Imagine a counter-campaign, where all blogs mentioning peperoni pizza, lasagne, cheese burgers received an endless stream of protesting comments.

Here are some samples:

LOLcat sites would be especially hard-hit.

phil- Exactly! I’m sick of frum people trying to justify their beliefs in some kind of rational system like that “circumsicion has health benefits”. That’s not why they have them, it’s just a rationalization. They have them because it says so in the Torah, so why not say that.

Many of those who are anti-circ are also anti-vaccination. If you check out parenting blogs/ forums, especially the crunchy-granola ones, you’ll find this viewpoint.

That said, my sons had a bris milah because I believe that’s what G-d wants. If I weren’t Jewish I might not have had them circumcised at the hospital. My kids are fully vaccinated though.

There are studies on men in AFRICA that show a lower incidence of HIV among males with circumcision.

Also, men who are circumcised have a lower incidence of URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS, which lead to KIDNEY FAILURE.

We do it because G-d told us too.

The secular world falls in and out of love with it, but that’s irrelevant. Really. The only reason we do it is because we’ve always done so, and any other reason, like extolling the “health benefits” (Which the current consensus is minimal, but hey that changes every 50 years) kinda misses the point.

Reply

38 Marc February 5, 2009 at 3:08 AM

Anyone who wants to argue the health benefits of circumcision should take it up with the Wprld Health Organisation who have changed their official position of being neutral on the issue- to recommending it as a standard procedure!

Now the fact that there is a secular benefit to it is irrelevant to us anyway- but its nice to know that they are there as well as the religious benefits!

As to the original topic of this post- yep, you always get the idiot fringe that feel compelled to put their one liner proofs of their lack of brain power down on anything Jewish.

For those of you who seemed misinformed about the benefits of a circumcision, should refer to the CDC website. They explain fully, the reasons why it helps prevent HIV, and other infections from penetrating.

To quote the CDC, “Lack of male circumcision has also been associated with sexually transmitted genital ulcer disease and chlamydia, infant urinary tract infections, penile cancer, and cervical cancer in female partners of uncircumcised men.”

(Women who contract the HPV virus, are at a higher risk of developing cervical cancer).

Eden is correct. Circumcision has little to no health benefit here in the US (if we were tribal Kenyans, perhaps). It does reduce sexual feeling when performed on children near puberty.

It is sad that Judaism has made penis-cutting into such a big part of its membership. It creates a very difficult situation for us Jews who think it’s a bad idea. If you want to circumcise your kid, go right ahead. But don’t tell me I’m a bad Jew because I think it’s a dumb idea.

Priss, that’s not a good comparison. The people consuming treif food are consenting adults. The claim being made here is that the babies can’t consent. The anti-circumcision people are generally idiotic but that’s not a good reason to respond with poor analogies.
