How did you find this blog?

by Heshy Fried on November 20, 2008 · 55 comments

I guess I am just curious to hear how people came across this site. I think the readers and myself will find it fascinating to hear you stumbled across frum satire, whether it be through a weird term you put into a search engine, or through a blog, Facebook or Craigslist.

One of my longtime loyal fans asked me several months back if I could do a demographic study on who reads my blog- but most people wont comment so I will start with this question.

For instance someone told me once that they found my blog through searching for “blackberry siddur tanya” which was pretty cool.

How did you find this blog?

Hiemish where have you been- by the way I recently rewrote that post and will be putting it up some time next week- it is mildly offensive of course- but I took it from a different angle this time.

I think while I was doing a google search for something Jewish. I came across this page- http://www.frumsatire.net/2008/03/08/monsey-observations-my-first-week/ – and thought it was hilarious!
That was back in March and I’ve been reading ever since.

I found it while surfing for “Jewish metal”. Not sure if your site was in the search results, or if I clicked through from another blog though. I believe it might have been related to ex yeshiva bochur David Draiman from “Disturbed”.

By Googling “Jewish, convert, Modern Orthodox, aliyah, blog” – which got me Benji at whatwarzone.com, which got me to you. Sometime during this process, I realized what I was looking for didn’t exist, so I started my own. And *then* I realized exactly why what I was looking for doesn’t exist. :)

I’ll stay de-lurked to add:

I put “Davening” into YouTube and found your video: “Do you speak Davanese” and then followed you home.

Your blog is a great porthole to a Jewish world very different from my own tiny little Jewish world. Good luck in your travels and relocation and please don’t stop blogging!

Someone fwded me an email with the post heimishe mentioned above (an analysis of the different types of jews.) However, the bottom of the post was missing and I just HAD to read the rest of it. I must have googled something, and even though for the life of me I cannot remember what, it brought me here.

Cannot remember if it was a ‘whisper campaign’ that started with hipster Jews I was staying with in Berkeley CA, or if I heard about it from some scruffy beard drum-jam guy that kinda smelled at Hillel UConn. This darn website was brought up at one of those places – I am sure of it.

one of my friends was joking abut how we like to video our everyday lives. She then mentioed that she had actually seen a YouTube vid of a guy on a shidduch date infiltrating a Shidduch-lobby in New York. Needless to say, we were intruiged… the rest is blog history.

Pretty sure it was the seltzer post. I recall googling for “soda siphon” and finding this site. I must say its been an important part of my Jewish education on the path to conversion. Now you got that hangin over your head too Hesh.

tzip, a homberg is a very cool hat, not a thing to be mocked or burned. After months of searching I recently scored the perfect black “pork pie” hat and my wife adores how it looks on me. Must however qualify that I have no intention of becoming a “black hat”. This one looks more “rat pack” than anything else.

Side note: “black hat” to me always meant the “evil” type of hackers, but thats because I work in computer security. Now I get cognitive dissonance when I hear the term. “Do they mean Hassidim or Hacker?” Someday a frum kid from Brooklyn will write the next monster virus and I’ll go into a recursive loop of black hat black hat.
