Matisyahu is Modeling for Kenneth Cole!!!

by Heshy Fried on August 31, 2008 · 27 comments

This may be old news, but to me its funny and way cool. I personally love Matisyahu as a Jewish icon and his ability to make orthodoxy not seem all black and white. I understand that everyone has some sort of opinion about him, but I personally love the dude, and think he did awesome things for the Jewish community. I also think its hilarious that he is modeling for Kenneth Cole- its just funny. Now if only we could get a popular orthodox woman to model for Victoria’s Secret we would be set.

But of course I saw it. I can see you now, prancing through the streets of Monsey…

completely random question frumsatire. Where do you get your recent comment widget from? I have one on my site that keeps on blanking out.

I keep seeing him around crown heights. He doesn’t seem to want to leave. He sticks out with his peyos though.

Its a nice video but the campaign seems so late 80s/early 90s.

When I hear any off album things of him, I feel this odd frustration because I wish I could have a chance to produce a singer with a new way of doing things and an in depth message like he has.

And I thought you were joking!
Seriously!
Wow, with that haircut, yet. I think he did something to his eyebrows and I don’t like it.

Since when did he start dressing up like this? Did he leave Lubabavitch and become Bobov or something? Seriously? What happened?

A few months ago, there were some articles which said that he had left Chabad, went Karlin or something.

Karlin Stolin baby- the screamers yo!

He still lives in CH- but maybe he’s starting a movement because back in the day plenty of snags and other chassids lived in CH.

Oh man, I was talking with Jacob about this. I’d just bought the new GQ and he has a full page in it for Kenneth Cole.
I told Jacob he should write about it and he told me I should, but I forgot.

The victoria secret idea has a lot of merit to it. I mean you need something to try and make a jewish girl’s chest look like something under all the layers they need to wear :)

But seriously, glad to see that Jews are being in the mainstream for these kind of Ads, maybe it’ll show those semi-religious Jews who are into modeling, singing, and acting that you can be religious and still be in these type of professions

He did something to his eyebrows. Look at the picture here, http://me-ander.blogspot.com/2008/09/eyebrows.html

Just watched the interview and exclusive performance (actually a very nice vid) on KennethCole.com. He looks TOTALLY drugged up and NOT healthy at all.

Does he do drugs?

The actresses on Fiddler on the roof were not Jewish.

For the next Victoria Secret Jewish Fashion show, we could hire gentiles and put scarves over their heads, too.

I didn’t realize he grew peyos, must be a new look, not mainstream Chabad. Good for him, I’m happy the $$$ is going to a fellow heeb.

As far a “nightwear”, don’t they have some sort of “devoiries secret” in Williamsburg or New Square by now?

Phil, the look he is adopting is the more Chassidish look, with the peyos and shaved head.

See here: http://www.thejewishweek.com/viewArticle/c36_a1216/News/New_York.html

and google “Matisyahu Karlin” for more discussion on blogs.

I hate those Mutton Chop Payos they are so ughhhh. By the way the Rebbe said to spread yiddshkeit any way you can. I think he is doing that here in his own money making way, oh yah never mind he’s not a Chasid of the Rebbe anymore, so i guess hes just making money off himself . Wow that’s great just great!

I love the way he is still religious, yet doesn`t lose his own identity. I think many people are too happy with just blending in. They just want to be like everyone else and not cause to much a a wave (like when you step into water, sorry only image I can compare it to). You can see Matis is totally comfortable with who he is. Just makes him all that cooler. :)
