I’m lucky because whenever someone tries to play Jewish geography or asks my last name so they can compare which families my family might know they get this defeated look on their faces because my last name is a Greek-Jewish last name and in Greece it’s known as a Jewish last name, but not in the US. And I rarely know anyone so they give up quickly.

North Carolina rocks, Asheville is one of my fave towns.

JG is great, besides when it disturbs everyone- and that always happens. Specially when its hocker JG- then they have to make sure everyone hears their conversation.

B”H Maybe these people are lonely. Maybe they don’t have anyone to go to restaurants with like you do. Maybe they don’t know how else to relate to others socially. Maybe the next time you hear one of these people say something familiar to you, you could chime in, and then invite one of these lonely souls to coffee.

This does not happen in non-Jewish places, but it happens in the Jewish ones all over the world.

There is that little kosher place in Manchster (England) where waiters would start talking to my family in the same manner. They would tell me all about the other visitors as well, including who sleeps with whom and what her parents would say if they ever find out.

My kids used to be on the floor laughing every time we visited – it was quite a cultural shock in comparison with all the uptight British places.

This is why Jewish restaurants are the best.
