The cost of going to Alaska

I am sure most of your may be wondering how an unemployed recent college grad like myself may have afforded the luxary of driving to Alaska. How can a 24 year old guy with no money drive 12,000 miles in one month while gas prices were as high as $5 a gallon at some remote Canadian stations. Well my buddy added up all of our combined expenses including- massive food purchases, gas, oil changes and other misc items. All together each of us spent a grand total of $856 for a one month all inclusive trip to Alaska- everyone told us it would be cheaper to fly- not so apparantly. On top of this my addcition to ice cream bars and chex mix probably puts the total at around $1000. Just thought I would let the masses know.
